Principal Geometallurgist

Metallurgical QA/QC – Who Needs it? The Olympic Dam Experience

Kathy is recognised as a leader of technical excellence, establishing the Olympic Dam geometallurgy program more than a decade ago when this was still an emerging field. She has made significant contributions in the fields of mineralogy, geochemistry, core logging, orebody modelling and geometallurgy. She left the US for Australia to join what was then WMC in 1992 as a research geologist to work on the genesis of the Olympic Dam deposit and to provide mineralogical support to the metallurgy department. She continues to lead this work to this day, dividing her time between site, Adelaide and various research facilities. It is a mark of Kathy’s dedication to understanding the Olympic Dam deposit that she has spent the past 25 years studying and researching this complex deposit and she has willingly and generously mentored many other professional metallurgists, geologists and mining engineers over that time.
